Hurricane Fred

NOAA's Hurricane Center is following a large storm that moved off of the west coast of Africa.

The storm is still some 3000 miles from the Caribbean, but we think that this has the potential to become our first Caribbean hurricane of the season - Hurricane Fred. According to NOAA:

"Conditions appear favorable for development of this system and a tropical depression could form during the next couple of days".

The system is traveling at just 15 MPH and tracking similar to Erika. That would put the storm near the northeastern Caribbean islands of St. Martin, St. Barts, Anguilla and the British/US Virgin Islands no earlier than September 12.

Visitors to the Caribbean are advised to monitor this system.  Stay tuned to NOAA's Hurricane Center and CTN.
