Here come the hurricanes

Last week, we wrote that the 2009 hurricane season was off to a slow start.  Not one named storm system developed since the June 1 start date.

Well the the longest period without a first named storm since 1992 finally ended this weekend with Tropical Storm (now Tropical Depression) Ana in the Northern Caribbean and Hurricane Bill west of the Caribbean.  Ana has "dissapted" into a Tropical Depression as it heads from the Dominican Republic to the Bahamas.

And Bill, despite its potential to grow into a large hurricane, probably won't hurt the Caribbean.  It is moving at a Northwest clip that will keep it well east of the Caribbean. However, the Virgin Islands, especially Tortola and Anegada will feel the rain and wind from Bill.  The windward islands of St. Martin, Anguilla and St. Barts probably will also feel some effects from Hurricane Bill.

But nothing to wreck a vacation.
