Qatar Plans Luxury Cuban Hotel

(May 10) This week, Qatar and Cuba agreed to build a $75 million luxury hotel on Cayo Largo in Cuba.

Last year, the island drew 2.3 million tourists and Qatari Diar chief executive Ghanim bin Saad Al Saad says there is “great demand” for top quality hotels in Cuba.

The joint venture of the five-star Gran Paraiso, “Great Paradise,” will be located south of Havana, in Cayo Largo Sur.  The area features white sand beaches, coral reefs and warm waters.

For the next 14 months, Qatar and Cuba will work out the financial details.  The 450-room hotel is projected to break ground next year and has a completion date in 2012.  Qatari Diar and Cuban Gran Caribe are also considering an expansion of sixty villas.
