Swine Flu Boosts Caribbean Tourism

(May 3) With many tourists canceling their Mexico vacations, the Caribbean poses as a sunny alternative.

Worries of the spreading Swine Flu, H1N1, which originated in Mexico and has reached 23 of Mexico’s 32 states, as well as at least 17 other countries, have caused many travelers to seek other vacation destinations.

According to the Associated Press, U.S. travel agents say that they are recommending Jamaica and the Dominican Republic as possible alternatives to Cancun and other Mexican resorts.  Both islands are nearby and offer affordable accommodations and entertainment.

Even the cruise lines are switching up their itineraries.  Just this Friday, Carnival Cruise Lines announced that they plan to divert three ships from Mexico to the U.S. Virgin Islands.
