Travelers Stay Informed, Passport Laws Change In June

(April 19) Travelers stay informed.  Upon returning from vacationing to Bermuda, Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico, U.S. citizens will soon need to present a passport or travel document approved by the Department of Homeland Security.

Previously, other forms of identification, like voter registration cards and birth certificates, were accepted at land crossings.

Beginning on Monday June 1st, new identification requirements will be implemented.

First, travelers will need to present a valid passport or travel document approved by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security upon returning to the States via air, land or sea.

Second, a relatively new form of identification, the new U.S. Passport Card introduced in July 2008, can be used for cruise trips re-entry at U.S. ports and at land border crossings from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda.  The U.S. Passport Card is not valid for air travel.
